MAIN GALLERY:TYLER ADAMS:
COLOR ORGAN

PROJECT SPACE : OJO
YOU ARE MY

March 10 - April 7, 2007
Opening Reception: Saturday, March 10, 7 – 9PM

Main Gallery: Colour Organ is a meditative projection with sound that establishes the relationship between light and sound spectrums. The term 'colour organ' refers to a long tradition of devices built to visually represent and/or accompany sound. In this interpretation of the colour organ, Tyler Adams has written a software program that maps the frequencies of the RGB color spectrum and translates them into auditory frequencies. Curious about the sound "white noise" made, Adams began to explore what sounds or "noise" the rest of the color spectrum creates. Colour Organ results as an immersive bank of slow shifting color, much like a James Turrell piece, only married with sound. The color and sound projected shifts through the color spectrum so subtly that change is at the border of perception. After a short time, one begins to hear patterns, sounds, or music within the 'noise'. Certain spectra produce psychological or physiological responses of pain, pleasure, irritation, or hypnosis and even one's temporal experience is subtly affected.

Tyler Adams is a Los Angeles based artist whose work is primarily concerned with perception and the relationships between sound, light and space. He is currently working toward his MFA in Design|Media Arts at UCLA and holds a Post-Baccalaureate degree in Computer Science from Brandeis University and a BFA in Music Technology from California Institute of the Arts.

Project Room: Ojo is a collective founded in 2005 by visual artists Eamon Ore-Giron, Joshua Aster and Justin Cole, and now including Moises Medina and Chris Avitabile. Ojo formed over mutual interests in acoustic guitar, electronics, free form improvisational music and the blurred distinctions between audience and performer. "You Are My" is the first exhibition to feature ink drawings, paintings and photography, showcasing a new side of the collective. The opening will also feature a musical performance by Ojo member, Chris Avitabile (aka Collapsible Mammals).

Ojo has performed at Esthetics as a Second Language in Los Angeles, (available as a CD produced by James Welling), and Queens Nails Annex in San Francisco. Future performances include Oficinia #1 in Caracas, Venezuela, LAX ART in Los Angeles and Lui Vega in Tijuana, Mexico.
